I think I may have passed out again because when I woke up, the men were gone and the curtain was back in place. With all the energy I could muster, I got up on my feet and looked around, searching for a way to escape. When I looked down, I saw that my dress had been replaced with a sheer silky one that barely covered anything. It went above my knees and it had two slits that allowed my legs to be seen.

As I scanned my surroundings, I saw that the cage had a door and a sudden wave of happiness flooded me. The door had a small lock on it and I had a hair pin. It couldn’t have been better.

I carefully took the pin out of my hair and slid it into the lock. A click then a loud clank and the door was open. I forced it apart and, much to my horror, it went to the side with a horrible screeching noise. I waited for a few more minutes to make sure no-one was around and I ran to the room’s door.

I was free!

With the black curtain wrapped around myself, I wandered through a stone hall, red doors embedded on each side. It was unusually quiet and for a brief moment, I feared that someone might be watching me. I dreaded the thought that, after countless minutes of aimless wander, I would be welcomed with a cruel laughter that would mock me for my stupidness.

The sudden sound of a familiar voice reached my ears. It was Evan! Maybe he could help me. With my heart pounding like mad beneath my chest, I ran along the hall, following his voice until I reached another door, a black one this time.

Shyly, I knocked on it and waited for him to answer. Or, at least, I was hoping he would be the one answering.

“Yes? Ah, Miss Alexia.” It was Evan indeed, but something was changed about him. I couldn’t exactly place what, though.

“C—Can you help me?” I stammered, unable to find the right words. “I t—think I’ve b—been ki—kidnapped and I don’t know where—“

“Say no more, my dear,” he gave me a gentle smile as he invited me in. I followed and sat down on the nearest chair. He went to his desk and I watched quietly as he rummaged through the drawers. My heart sank when I saw him pulling out a gag and a pair of handcuffs.

“You’ve been quite a challenge to attain,” he murmured, almost to himself. “But we have finally got you.”

We? What the hell was he rambling about?

“You should have not escaped your cage, Miss Alexia,” he uttered and, as he grinned, I could see what was off about him. He had fangs! This man was like them—a monster. And like the dumb girl I was, I had thrown myself right at his claws. “But I am in a good mood today and I shall let you go without punishment.”
